Well, for those that haven't heard yet, a group of Marine Snipers in Afghanistan shot and killed 3 Taliban fighters last week. In an act that defies all logic, these Marines lined the bodies up on the ground, promptly placed themselves in front of these dead bodies, and began urinating on them. O they thought it was a hoot, these brave Marines. They laughed and joked about what they were doing. One Marine even asked one of the dead bodies if they 'Enjoyed the shower.' This act was caught on camera and then posted all over You Tube. The next day it was all over the news in both Western and Eastern countries.
Secretary of Defense Leon Penetta called the act despicable and promised a full inquiry into the matter. The Marine Corp also promised swift action. Here is my problem with that. Why does the United States have the right to police its own war crimes? That would have been like asking Charles Manson to gather evidence at the Tate murder house. This isn't a crime which individuals should pay for! This is a crime against humanity, and against conduct during war time. It is the United States that is guilty of this. It is the United States that should answer for it. These Marines, and their squad leader should be incarcerated in the Hague, and tried as war criminals. Remember Abu Ghraib? The United States policed their own in that instance too. Nobody did any jail time for that, and the punishments that were laid out were trivial and not fitting the crimes committed.
The United States loves to stick out its chest and thump it at the world to remind everybody that they can do what they want, and there's nothing anybody else can do about it. They think they are untouchable. This is just another example of US justice, as it pertains to its military. What a shame. Rome once thought like the United States does, and they bullied and brow beat other countries around them too. O they thought that they were doing these countries a favor. They were bringing them culture and religion. That was all the justification they needed to decimate the world around them. But as mighty as Rome was, it fell. The United States would do itself a big favor to remember that. For fucks sake, we don't even belong in Afghanistan anymore. Bin Laden is dead!
I say to hell with occupy Wall Street! It's time to take back our country before it kills itself. It's time to Occupy Washington DC. Now that is a movement I would join...
Tomorrow is Martin Luther King Day, and I always love to remember one part of his 'I have a dream' speech in which he says to measure a man by the content of his character not the color of his skin. My daughter Alayna is half African American, and her mother has been deceased for some years now. She often asks about why she has a darker skin than her sister Alia, who is white. I always tell her that the world is made up of people who are different in the way the talk, dress, worship, and even different skin colors. I do my best to help her understand that we are all the same underneath. I also think it is important for her to spend time with her birth father's side of the family. It is part of who she is, and I want her to be proud of that. I know that when I look at Alayna, I don't see black or white, but just my beautiful and wonderful daughter...
