So I woke up the other day and started gathering trash from around the house as it was 'Trash Day.' I got all of the bags together and proceeded outdoors where the big trash can is. I got about 40 ft away from the can when I realized something big was at the trash can. It was dark, so I couldn't tell what it was a first, but once I did realize what it was my body went numb with fear. At my trash can was a big Black Bear. He looked at me, and I stared back in return. I slowly tried to back up, and the Bear got up on his two back legs and made the most horrible guttural sound he could make. I continued backing up until I reached my door, and I made my way back inside and locked the door. I could hear the Bear stirring around my trash and getting whatever he could forage. My wife told me to just stay inside and call and report the Bear sighting to the local authorities. It took about 20 minutes, or so, for police and animal control to arrive. The Bear had left my yard before they arrived, but it didn't take long for them to find him, as he was now in my next door neighbors trash. The Bear was tranquilized, and I was told they were going to take him back up into the mountains where he belongs. That is as close as I ever have been to a Bear, and hope that is the last time I see one in my yard.
I have been in a Haiku mood lately, so expect to see a handful of them in the coming weeks. Also I have been contemplating doing a collaboration or two.
Finally, I would like to let everyone know that my health is improving more and more as time goes along. My diabetes is under control, and I have been doing well mentally. That is about it for now, and we will talk again soon...
